The Carleton Sport Medicine Clinic, founded in 1972, was one of the first clinics in Canada that could provide specific treatments for injured athletes. With over 40 years of service, it is no doubt one of the most experienced medical centers when it comes to sports medicine.

The doctors at this clinic have specialized training so they can become caregivers for athletes and active patients of all ages. They are requested to undergo Sports Medicine Fellowship courses and some of them even have an additional Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Sports Medicine.

We are also happy to say that the medical center is partnered with the Canadian Academy of Sport & Exercise Medicine, so its doctors are regularly updated when it comes to new research in the field.

The clinic has multiple doctors, but for injuries in sports, there are 7 doctors in charge. They take care of injury treatment, physiotherapy, and even concussion care.

Speaking of concussion care, the Carleton Sport Medicine Clinic also has its own concussion care unit where specialized treatment is given to patients.

Overall, with the experts under its belt and the state-of-the-art facilities, you can do almost no wrong with the Carleton Sport Medicine Clinic.

The only issue we found was the appointment cost, which will still be charged even if you missed your appointment. Other than that, everything about this medical center looks great.

Pros

  • Has multiple sports doctors available
  • Offers other medical services
  • Doctors are required a high level of sports medicine education

Cons

  • Missed appointments can still be charged

Bank Street’s Athlete’s Care Sports Medicine Centre is a clinic and rehabilitation area for athletes who have suffered both minor and major injuries.

Among its many services are injury treatment, physiotherapy, sports medicine consultations, and even chiropractic care.

What makes this medical center unique is its fitness programs. Other than treating athletes’ injuries, it also has its own runners’ program and pregnancy fitness programs to make sure that even non-athletes are active in their own way.

We also like that even though it’s a medical center that leans on science, it still accepts massage therapy as a legitimate way of treating some injuries.

Just like the people behind Athlete’s Care Sports Medicine Centre, we also think massage therapy is quite useful.

Of course, for more intense injuries, the center has its own care units where its doctors can focus on one patient at a time.

The doctors are also highly trained and have acquired enough experience to treat all kinds of sports-related trauma.

The Athlete’s Care Sports Medicine Centre actually has numerous locations. But these are a bit small, which can be a problem when there are too many patients.

Other than that, everything about this center looks good and it’s a solid place for medical needs.

Pros

  • Has a runners program
  • Also offers fitness programs for pregnant women
  • Good location
  • Has its own care units

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Lots of patients cramped in small clinics

Customer Reviews

Highly recommended
“A health care colleague recommended Kirk at the Bank  Street location to me a month ago. I injured  my shoulder three years ago and have been participating in physio, acupuncture  and dry needling with minimal improvement. Kirk is very knowledgeable, skilled and has good interpersonal skills. I have seen him three times in a two week period with great results. Thank you so much Kirk! The staff at the front desk are also pleasant and accommodating.” – Tracey Mantle

Helpful
“I have been going here for several years. Longer term, I’ve gone to, and still go to Dr. Andrew for chiropractic care. He has helped me with many injuries through the years, including sport, overuse and desk sitting issues.” – Dawn Mitchell

Medsport Ottawa is not just a clinic for sports injuries and other similar trauma. It’s also a place where athletes can consult doctors regarding their diets, activeness, and even mental health.

With this, the clinic also serves as a hub where athletes can feel comfortable asking all the questions they need answered.

Medsport actually has an online booking feature for simple consultations with sports doctors who can provide their expertise on different athletic problems. It’s a great way to make sure that athletes are in top shape physically and mentally.

It’s a place not just for professional athletes but for anyone who is trying to stay active and healthy.

Of course, Medsport Ottawa also has its injury center where doctors can check and treat injuries. There’s also a concussion care unit available for those who injured their heads.

It should be noted that Medsport Ottawa is not a hospital and does not have rooms for admitting patients. It does have a good connection with the surrounding hospitals and can easily process transfers if needed.

Overall, Medsport is a great place for both athletes and non-athletes alike.

The only issue we have is it doesn’t have many doctors available. But this should be no problem as long as patients call before going to the clinic.

Pros

  • Free parking
  • Offers concussion management
  • Online booking
  • For both athletes and non-athletes

Cons

  • No indication of how many doctors there are
  • Not a hospital that can admit patients

Pro Physio & Sport Medicine Centre is not just an establishment for athletes’ injuries. It’s also an education center that offers Physiotherapy Mentorship programs to numerous doctors in the metro.

This clinic is unique and has access to different doctors working at different locations. If, for example, someone gets injured and needs physiotherapy, the center knows which expert to contact to come to the patient’s aid.

It’s not a typical health center where all the doctors are already in the building. But we quite like it because this means any kind of expertise needed will be available in a few hours’ wait.

Of course, this method is problematic for emergency situations. Luckily, The Pro Physio & Sport Medicine Centre has its own emergency care units as well.

Uncommon medical services such as aqua therapy, acupuncture, and massage therapy are also offered in this establishment.

After booking an appointment, the clinic calls the doctors who specialize in these types of treatments so they can be available during the scheduled meeting.

Unfortunately, the Pro Physio & Sport Medicine Centre can charge quite a lot for some of its services. It’s better to call the center first to know the prices of the services it offers.

Pros

  • Chiropractor services
  • Also has massage, acupuncture, and aqua therapy offered
  • Has connections to multiple doctors in the city

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Emergency cases will require patients to wait a bit

Customer Reviews

Incredible

“I highly recommend this location, the staff is incredibly kind and knowledgeable and helped me immensely. They follow covid protocols very seriously and I felt safe and comfortable getting treatment.  I went for a few months after I had a bad MCL injury and couldn’t walk or move my knee. I am so grateful that I got to work with the physiotherapist Leenesh who took great care of me in my recovery and basically taught me how to walk again.  Thank you so much!” – Stephanie P.

Great job

“Great physiotherapy clinic. I was seen by Mark for a hamstring overuse injury, he explained everything thoroughly, and focused both on the site of injury as well as other areas of the body that may be contributing to the problem. Thanks to his treatments I was up and running again within a few weeks!” – Charlene Rhead

From basic injuries to major trauma, Optimize Physiotherapy & Sport Medicine is able to help its patients recover.

The clinic has multiple doctors who are experts in their own fields. This is why it’s one of the best options for athletes and non-athletes alike.

One of the clinic’s main doctors, Dr. David White, is an expert in human kinetics and neurosciences. He has been part of the Fifa Women’s World Cup medical team and is an experienced doctor when it comes to many physical injuries.

It should be worth noting that the medical professionals that Optimize hires are also athletes themselves. They know how the sport works and how our bodies react.

We like that Optimize also has other knowledgeable doctors who are trained in musculoskeletal issues, physiotherapy, and even acupuncture and needling. These services, although not as commonly needed as basic injury treatment, are also very important.

Overall, it’s hard to find a fault in such a complete establishment. The only possible issue patients may have with this medical facility is its pricing, which can be expensive for those who have a strict budget.

If you encounter emergencies or basic injuries, this facility is definitely one of the best choices, as long as you can afford it.

Pros

  • Has dry needling services
  • Also offers acupuncture services
  • Good location
  • Doctors are athletes themselves

Cons

  • Pricey services

Customer Reviews

Fantastic

“Fantastic service. When I first started going to the clinic, I was in a lot of pain. Mike has made a big difference to how I move and the exercises he has given me to do are making a world of difference. The clinic is also very clean and inviting. I would recommend Mike and Optimize to anybody that needs help getting mobile again.” – Victoria Day

I was in good hands

“Recovery from knee replacement surgery takes time and commitment. But more importantly, a qualified physiotherapist with a hands-on approach can make the process less daunting. I’m grateful for the courteous and helpful staff at Optimize Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine in Riverside South, and from the time physiotherapist Andrew Maxner greeted me at my first appointment, I knew I would be in good hands” – Lisa Cloutier-Steele

Best therapy in town!!

“Best therapy in town!!  Dr. Jon fixed my son from a hockey injury,  my son was back on the ice within 5 weeks.   I am also going to see Dr. Jon, he is fabulous.  He wants to see you get better and not a 5 min appointment in and out.  He takes his time to address your concerns.  Holly is also helping my son with massage therapy, amazing !!  Thank you!” – Julie Mariani

The care and treatment I received from Dr. Jon were outstanding!

“The care and treatment I received from Dr. Jon was outstanding!  But equally important were the knowledge and skills he provided for me to move forward at the gym with great confidence and enjoyment.  Dr. Jon is a first class health care professional.”  – Steve Collins
