The 5 Best Midwife Services in Ottawa That’ll Care for You and Your Baby Every Step of the Way
Giving birth is one of the most challenging yet rewarding moments a woman can experience in her entire life.
When my cousin went through it, I watched her endure the pain, only to be met with overwhelming joy the moment she held her baby for the very first time.
Thankfully, her journey was made smoother by a dedicated midwife who supported her every step of the way.
If you’re hoping for the same kind of compassionate guidance, I’m sharing the best midwife services in Ottawa you can count on.
How much does midwifery care cost in Ottawa?
Midwifery care in Ottawa is fully funded by Ontario’s health care program, so residents can access prenatal, birth, and postpartum support at no cost.
1. Ottawa Valley Midwives

Address: 2039 Robertson Rd #244, Nepean
Phone: +1 613 253 3148
Ottawa Valley Midwives was founded in 1988 with a catchment area in the west suburbs and the Ottawa Valley region.
I love the team’s individualized care approach. They tailor support to an expecting mom’s unique needs, preferences, and circumstances, rather than providing one-size-fits-all assistance.
What’s great is that they have privileges at the Princeway Carleton Hospital and Almonte General Hospital, where they can practice within their full scope.
If you’re seeking above-average assistance, you’ll benefit from the two to four midwives they assign to each patient throughout the pregnancy. Each of them will have time to get to know you and build a trusting relationship.
Some previous patients, however, stated that their midwives ignored their suggestions and feelings.
They handle everything from ultrasounds and hospital appointments
“I was fortunate to register with the Ottawa Valley Midwives, and it has been an incredible experience. They’ve been exceptionally kind, supportive, and thorough—handling everything from ultrasounds and hospital appointments to providing essential information. Their care has made this journey so much more comforting. Audrey and Tanya, in particular, have been absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, I’ll likely be giving birth in Vancouver due to an upcoming move, and I’ll truly miss the sense of safety and reassurance that comes with having a midwife by my side. I highly recommend Ottawa Valley Midwives for your pregnancy. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

Amazing compassion and information for a first-time mom
“I cannot say enough great things about this clinic and it’s midwives! Amazing compassion and information for anyone expecting When I was a first time mom I remember booking a consult meeting with the midwives. A huge factor in deciding to go with the midwives was the fact that they book 45 min session. My family doctor was booking 10 min appointments and when there i felt that I shouldn’t be asking “annoying” questions. The midwives never made me feel this way and advocated me t throughout pregnancy and delivery. While each person had to chose what is right for their pregnancy journey my suggestion is to book an initial intake meeting with them if you are expecting, you won’t regret it!”

2. Midwifery Collective of Ottawa

Address: 88 Centrepointe Dr, Nepean
Phone: +1 613 730 2323
Business hours:
- Mon: 9 AM – 4 PM
- Tue-Thu: 9 AM – 4:30 PM
- Fri: 9 AM – 3 PM
The Midwifery Collective of Ottawa helps almost 400 pregnant women give birth every year. They’ve been around since 1994 and are considered among the pioneers in the regulated midwifery model in Ontario.
The company consists of 14 midwives, the most in this list, who are registered with the Ontario College of Midwives.
I appreciate their family-centred approach. They actively work with the mom’s family, listening to their suggestions and letting them have the final say in decisions.
Plus, the team offers flexible birthing options, including home birth, or delivery in the Ottawa Hospital, and the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre.
But as great as they are, there are reports that they run up to an hour late for appointments.
Thank you for the humane approach to such a vulnerable time of life
“I can’t imagine how my birth experience would’ve been without MCO. I had the most amazing experience, Mille and Emily were my midwives, and I couldn’t have asked for better care. I don’t have enough words to thank them for their services, their humane approach to such a vulnerable time of life. Also a big thanks to Blue, their amazing receptionist, always answering emails and being very polite and professional! My baby was breech, so my midwives wasted no time and referred me to a midwife specialist in breech vaginal deliveries, Betty Anne. Everyone was amazing and I could not thank them enough! ❤️”

3. Ottawa South Midwives

Address: 4112 Albion Rd S, Gloucester
Phone: +1 613 822 6646
Business hours: Mon-Fri: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Ottawa South Midwives houses a team of multilingual midwives offering services in six languages, including English, French, Russian, Mandarin, Ukrainian, and Kinyarwanda.
I particularly like their one-on-one support format. One of their midwives will provide continuous and personalized care to one woman throughout her labour and birth.
The team’s approach effectively increases the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth by providing physical, emotional, and informational support that reduces maternal anxiety and promotes the natural physiology of labour.
For moms with low pain tolerance, it’s a plus that the group offers a range of natural and pharmaceutical pain relief options, such as TENS machines, narcotics, and nitrous oxide.
I also love the excellent selection of birthplaces they provide, giving mothers a choice to deliver their baby at home, at a birth centre, or at a hospital.
However, some patients said they were placed on a wait list and were told there was no space for their due date.
They made sure I felt supported every step of the way
“I’m so deeply grateful to the entire team at Ottawa South Midwives —Joanne, Ola, Helen, Melissa, and student Camille for walking beside me through my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. As a first-time mom, I had so many questions, fears, and moments of doubt, and you all made sure I felt supported every step of the way. Joanne—I truly don’t have enough words to thank you. Your calm presence, wisdom, and timely decision to transfer my care to the OB team ultimately saved my baby girl’s life. Ola—thank you for your warm and steady presence throughout both my prenatal and postnatal care. You always made me feel safe, heard, and understood. Your empathy, gentle approach, and deep knowledge gave me so much comfort and reassurance.”

4. Midwifery Group of Ottawa

Address: Unit 700, 265 Carling Ave
Phone: +1 613 729 9957
Business hours: Mon-Fri: 9 AM – 4 PM
The Midwifery Group of Ottawa provides a full-scope practice, from low-risk pregnancy and birth to postpartum care for the first six weeks. They began in 1994, the same year when midwifery was regulated in Ontario.
From what I’ve discovered, their primary focus is clinical, with midwives extending their services beyond labour and delivery. One example is the full prenatal care they offer for each patient, including clinical examinations, screening, and parenting classes.
The only problem with the team’s approach is that they don’t build strong relationships with soon-to-be moms—each client is shuffled between midwives.
They’re well aware of this, though, which is why they built a large network of doulas to ensure clients won’t feel alone during those challenging times.
Beyond home birth, patients have the privilege to deliver their child at the Monfort Hospital or the Ottawa Birth and Wellness Centre.
They’re equipped with the tools, passion, empathy, and compassion
“From start to finish, I received exceptional care from my midwives at the Midwifery Group of Ottawa. Hannah and Sarah are skilled midwives and equipped with the tools, passion, empathy and compassion to care for pregnant individuals. I felt supported throughout my pregnancy, I was able to ask questions, never felt rushed during my visits, and the care I received during labor as well as in the early postpartum period was incomparable. I always felt safe, heard and had an extremely positive pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience – I could not have done it without my midwives! They are truly a gift!”

They took every single concern, even the little ones, seriously
“I gave birth in November 22nd, so it’s been a bit, but I had to finally leave a review. I had such an amazing experience with this midwifery that I would love to have all my pregnancies to be under their care. Lea and Celine are the best. All my questions were answered; they took every single concern even little ones seriously and would follow up. My postpartum experience was better thanks to the aftercare I got and the helpful advice from my midwives. I cannot recommend the Midwifery group enough seriously!”

5. East Ottawa Midwives

Address: 5310 Canotek Rd #202, Gloucester
Phone: +1 613 745 1711
Business hours: Mon-Fri: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
East Ottawa Midwives is the only midwifery group in East Ottawa, providing bilingual and sensitive care to residents from all backgrounds.
The group’s family-centred care approach ensures that patients and their families can make informed choices about birthplace, tests, procedures, and other important decisions.
It’s nice that they offer care in several delivery options, allowing moms to give birth where they feel comfortable. The team can assist at home, at a birth centre, and at a hospital.
I’m impressed by their expertise in water immersion and waterbirth. The crew underwent training and certification and has tons of experience helping pregnant women deliver through these methods.
I was only disappointed to learn about incidents of body shaming from their midwives.
They’re exceptional, compassionate, skilled, and supportive
“I had both of my children under the care of East Ottawa Midwives, and both experiences were wonderful. In 2021 I was cared for by Grace and Marie-Eve, and in 2025 by Meghann and Mel P. Both teams were exceptional, compassionate, skilled, and supportive throughout the pregnancies, births, and postpartum. I had incredibly positive birthing experiences thanks to them, and they will always hold a special place in our hearts!!”

All my questions were validated and answered
“Grace has helped bring both my babies into the world and she’s just the best. All our appointments were so positive and laid back. I never felt rushed, all my questions were validated and answered. When ever I had to bring my toddler to appointments with me, she was welcomed and included. I always left the office feeling good and empowered. I had a hospital birth with my first and a home birth for my second, both went very smoothly and Grace and Melanie brought a calming and confident feeling to the room. I will definitely be going back if/when we have a third.”
