The 5 Best Bed and Breakfasts in Ottawa for a Cozy Retreat That Checks All the Boxes

Location and Accessibility: We evaluated the proximity of each bed and breakfast to key attractions, ensuring they are conveniently located for sightseeing and easily accessible by public transport.

Comfort and Amenities: We assessed each B&B's overall comfort, focusing on room quality, comfortable bedding, and additional amenities like fireplaces, private patios, or garden spaces that enhance the stay.

Breakfast Quality: We looked at the quality and variety of breakfast offerings, making sure each location serves fresh, homemade, and locally sourced options beyond basic continental breakfasts.

Value for Money: We compared prices with the level of service and features provided, confirming that each B&B offers exceptional value for the rate charged.

Unique Atmosphere and Charm: We chose B&Bs with a distinct character—whether through historical architecture, unique interior design, or a cozy, home-like ambiance that sets them apart.

Cleanliness and Hygiene Standards: We carefully reviewed each location’s cleanliness, focusing on guest reviews and hygiene practices to ensure a high standard of cleanliness throughout.

I’ve got family flying in soon, and, naturally, they want the full Ottawa experience. But we’re talking more cozy, less hotel chain vibes (you know what I mean). That left me with one mission: find the perfect bed and breakfast.

I was aiming for something with more personality—someplace they’ll rave about over brunch when they return home.

Maybe you’re on a similar quest—trying to avoid that cookie-cutter stay and find something that actually feels special.

So, after digging through all the options, I’ve tracked down the top bed and breakfasts in Ottawa that hit all the right notes. Seriously, these are 10/10—highly recommend.

What is the rate for a bed and breakfast in Ottawa?

Bed and breakfast rates in Ottawa generally range from $100 to $250 per night, depending on the location, amenities, and level of luxury offered.

Many places also provide special seasonal deals or discounts for extended stays, making it easier to enjoy a cozy getaway without breaking the bank.

Phone: (613) 237-6089

Business Hours: Open 24 hours daily

Website

If you want to experience a Victorian vibe with modern comforts, McGee’s Inn is like stepping into a time machine. Located in downtown Ottawa, it’s perfectly situated for exploring, but still gives off those peaceful vibes.

I like that each room bursts with personality, featuring fun decor and super comfy beds. It’s a perfect backdrop for those Insta-worthy shots.

And of course, breakfast is a total win—fresh, local, and delicious. It’s a haven for anyone from sweet pastry lovers to savory snackers.

As for cleanliness, it’s absolutely top-notch. I was impressed with the front door hand sanitizer, equipped with soaps and individually wrapped drinking cups for water.

However, one downside to staying at McGee’s Inn is the strict cancellation policy. Shortening your stay without 48 hours’ notice will incur a two-night charge. So, keep that in mind if your travel plans are a bit unpredictable.

Pros

  • Victorian vibe
  • Features fun decor and super comfy beds
  • Fresh, local, and delicious breakfast
  • Top-notch cleanliness

Cons

  • Strict cancellation policy

Great location and great value for the price

“I just live these Inns. It feels homy. Parking in front of the hotel, get a personal welcome and the decoration is full of history. I loved the Norman Rockwell items (we recently visited the centre in Stockbridge and bought a print, si could relate to it very much). Sleep was good, same as the breakfast. And in just 16 minutes we could walk to Parliament Hill (ok, we walked fast). It is all on walkable distance. So great location, great value for the price.”

Delicious and warm breakfast

“What a wonderful and unique stay! We stayed for three nights and the staff were so lovely and accommodating. This is a beautiful old home, so if you are not used to creaky floorboards, this may not be the place for you, but provide great character and history of the home. Our room was well stocked with bathroom amenities, and they assured our TV was functioning (although we did not need it). A/C was functioning well during our stay and the room stayed cool while we were out. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise. They provide you various options for breakfast and served you at your table (see pictures). Each breakfast was delicious and warm. We will be returning to the Inn when we come back to Ottawa.”

Very friendly and accommodating staff

“Our stay at this place far exceeded our expectations. We took a weekend trip away from Toronto to visit the nation’s capital. I called the host the day before and made a reservation. He was very friendly and accommodating. Secure self check-in and the interior has a warm yet chic and modern vibe. Following COVID protocols to this day, the place was extremely clean. The location is top notch in terms of proximity to major attractions. The attached bathroom, had all the necessary amenities including quality shampoos and body wash. It is understandably small so you have to aware of your surroundings. The gourmet apple pancake breakfast was exquisite, memorable and a perfect way to start the day. Highly recommended. We’ll be sure to stay there again next time.”

Fresh complimentary breakfast

“I was hesitant to stay at The Stewart Bed and Breakfast Ottawa. It had no reviews but the price was right and the pictures looked great. I took a chance and wow I was so happy I did 🙂 I stayed in Room 202 on the second floor, for three nights while on business in downtown Ottawa. This room had a large desk that was perfect for my work. The decor was clean and modern, and the manager is charming and friendly. Great artwork throughout the place. Complimentary breakfast was fresh with lots of fruit, well-organised and calm, a great start to the day. Good breakfast times 7:30am to 9am. I would definitely stay here again if I am ever back in Ottawa. Thanks Vittorio for the great stay, wish you the best.”

Very attentive and accommodating host

“We really enjoyed our stay at the Rideau Inn. Lucie, our host was very attentive and accomondating to our needs and wants! We stayed in both the one bedroom w/ bathroom and a one bedroom with a bathroom/shower down the hall. Both worked fine. Generally the neighbourhood was very quiet, and lots of eating establishments close by. The location was very good, with easy walking to Parliament (20 min.). The continental breakfast was just perfect to start the day. Would highly recommend.”

— Fredrecko, Tripadvisor

Prices are very reasonable

“Wonderful Bed and Breakfast in downtown Ottawa. Location is superb. A stone’s throw from pubs, restaurants, and entertainment. Staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The Inn is extremely clean and well maintained. The common areas include fridges and a comfy place to relax. The prices are very reasonable! The $10 parking option is also great. There’s only 3 small parking spots, so book that in advance if you need a safe place to park your vehicle. I visit Ottawa at least twice a year, and this is going to become my go-to place for overnight visits. Best part of all, it’s an official Bed and Breakfast, not a shady Airbnb “ghost hotel” that takes away housing stock from Ottawa locals. Support this honest accommodation business, they deserve a lot of love for the excellent service they deliver!”

Amazing host and yummy breakfast

“Richard is an amazing host. He pointed out all the areas of Ottawa I should visit, puts his heart and soul into every little thing in the B and B, and trains a wonderful dog guardian named Sandy to boot. The building is a turn of the century gem and the stay is 21st-century class. Everything is super clean and well-thought-out. The hot breakfast is yummy! I would stay here again in a heartbeat!”

Gorgeous rooms, garden and porch

“I had the pleasure of attending the Level Up business event with She Shops Local. Our host MARGOT POLITO was phenomenal. The rooms are gorgeous, the garden and porch area offered more areas to mingle and take in the nature in Sandy Hill, Ottawa. This venue is perfect to show your guests the city as an air b&b or host events from corporate to wellness. The kitchen space was also a nice place to gather. Off the kitchen was a theatre room with lots of entertaining ideas – I can picture hosting many events here both personal and professional.”
