5 Best Transmission Shops in Ottawa for Honest Diagnostics
Slipping gears or a fluid leak can ruin your day fast. A strange whine from your commuter car or fleet van usually means you need mechanics who know drivetrains.
That’s why I compared local garages on testing, specialty skills, warranties, convenience and pricing. I looked for honest diagnostics that separate a minor electronic glitch from a full rebuild.
Here are the best transmission shops in Ottawa, from heavy-duty fleet service to simple fluid changes, so you can get back on the road without emptying your wallet.

1. Bourk’s Complete Car Care

Website: bourks.com/ottawa-on
Address: 24 Hamilton Ave N
Contact: 613-728-4646
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Approving transmission work blind is stressful when you can’t see what’s wrong. Bourk’s Complete Car Care brings more than 85 years of family-run history to their dedicated truck repair and recreational vehicle (RV) transmission servicing.
They use Auto Serve 1 software to text you clear photos and videos of your drivetrain before touching a wrench. That visual inspection keeps the whole process transparent.
I had my own commuter car’s fluid checked here last year, and seeing the actual internal wear on my phone made approving the work much easier.
Plus, they handle both automatic and manual transmissions, so you don’t need a different shop for each.
However, drivers facing a catastrophic internal failure may need a replacement unit instead of a custom rebuild. Their doors also lock at 5:30 PM sharp, which makes pickup tough if you’re stuck in afternoon traffic.
Honest Assessment and Exceptional Service
Took my car here after my ball joint failed while on the highway. Guys inspected it and warned of bigger transmission damage before doing any work on the ball joint. They could have easily fixed the obvious damage and taken my money but they were honest about the risks and potential costs. They were incredibly patient while i figured out my next steps.
Will definitely be coming back in the future for any work on my next vehicles.

2. 2 and 1/2 Mechanics

Contact: 613-741-9696 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM | Saturday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Paying for transmission work you can’t see is a leap of faith. 2 and 1/2 Mechanics works with a strict pre-approval guarantee, so they’ll physically show you the damaged parts before charging a dime.
When digging into a gearbox turns up damaged gears, they can occasionally help source reliable used auto parts to keep your bill manageable.
Their certified technicians handle everything from severe gear slippage to routine hydraulic fluid care on all vehicle makes.
This authorized Motor Vehicle Inspection Station also runs a free 10-mile shuttle and a secure night key drop box. Those perks make drop-off easy if you have a packed work schedule.
However, they openly admit they can’t do every specialized repair in-house, so some odd jobs get referred out.
If you live in the farther suburbs, you’ll also fall outside the shuttle radius and need your own ride home.

Not knowing how big a transmission problem is makes every quote feel risky. Mister Transmission Ottawa starts with a free multi-check diagnostic and road test before recommending any heavy wrenching.
I talked to a local fleet manager who brought his delivery van here recently. He appreciated how thoroughly they explained the electronic sensor issues upfront.
Every rebuilt unit carries a nationwide warranty honoured at 56 Canadian locations, which is a big safety net for frequent travellers. They even run a monthly contest where you can win back up to $1,000 of your repair invoice.
They also offer asset-based financing if you need to split a major bill into monthly payments.
Just keep in mind that the warranty doesn’t cover extras like towing or a rental car if you get stranded. It’s also non-transferable, so it voids if you sell your vehicle to someone else.
Above and Beyond Service for Travelers
We’re from Winnipeg and began having transmission issues just outside of Ottawa. We had our campervan towed to this location, where they went above and beyond with their service. Kristin was friendly and knowledgeable and kept us promptly updated to our repair status. Mike the service tech worked so hard to get us back on the road in a safe and timely manner. This location worked in communication with our Winnipeg location to honor the nationwide warranty, even though we were 6000kms over the warranty threshold. We are so thankful for all their hard work and kindness.

4. Jaimes Transmission & Automotive

Tracing a tricky drivetrain fault takes more than guesswork. Jaimes Transmission & Automotive relies on computerized scanning and more than 25 years of specialized experience to pinpoint it.
Owner Carlos Jaimes runs a shop that does total dismantle inspections, taking domestic and import units apart piece by piece to find the exact failure point. That teardown makes sure every component gets checked, cleaned or replaced properly.
Their technicians service everything from four-wheel-drive transfer cases to manual clutches alongside standard automatics, which makes them a solid stop for both daily drivers and imported performance cars.
However, they lean heavily toward full rebuilds instead of isolated, minor component fixes. That thorough approach can turn into an invasive and expensive job.
They also frequently use refurbished parts in these overhauls, which may put off drivers who insist on brand-new factory components.
Quick Diagnostics and Affordable Fixes
Amazing service. Brought in my Honda civic thinking I had an issue with the transmission. Mr. Jaimes took it for a test drive and brought it back. He showed me the issue which was in the air intake hose. He figured out the problem because of a similar fix he had to do in the past. It took a bit of time, but he got the job done, and it didn’t even cost me 85$ including the part and tax. I will be going to him from now on. I recommend booking an appointment first to avoid waiting

Honest Second Opinion Saved Thousands
Jaimes Transmission was our savior. I was down and out having been quoted over$7000 for a transmission repair on a 2011 Ford F150. I was ready to scrap the truck, but decided to get a second opinion. Jaime transmission conducted a thorough diagnostic and determined that a rebuild would be overkill.
$700 later, the truck is repaired and we are back to work.
Thank you for your honesty and diligence Jaime Transmition.

5. B&N Transmission

Website: bnn-transmission.com
Address: 1086 Gladstone Ave.
Contact: 613-729-6000 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
B&N Transmission was the first facility in the city to earn Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) approval for gearbox repairs.
They offer a free initial inspection and test drive to find the problem at no cost.
Their five-bay shop builds and tests even complex units in-house. They also keep a large on-site inventory of remanufactured transmissions and torque converters, which speeds up turnaround.
To ease the burden of major overhauls, we love that they supply courtesy loaner vehicles so you can get to work while they fix your car.
That said, their services are strictly limited to light-duty vehicles, so heavy commercial truckers need to look elsewhere.
Rare Integrity and Exceptional Customer Care
Exceptional service and rare honesty! Brought my car in for transmission help, and the team diagnosed it as a very minor fix. Even after driving it around to thoroughly test it out and ensure it was safe, they didn’t charge me anything at all. You don’t find this kind of integrity very often. B&N has earned my complete trust, and I will definitely be a returning customer in the future. Thank you!

Fast Turnaround and Transparent Pricing
Excellent work from the guys here. I was quoted about a week to a week and a half wait for the parts needed to come in and then to repair. Got a call a day later that the parts would be in the next day, way sooner than expected. Had my car back at noon the next day, so from dropping it off to picking it up, only took them 2 days. I also paid exactly what they quoted me, no surprise charges, which I was happy to see.
Very impressed, highly recommend this place for your transmission needs.
