Ottawa New Music Festival 2024 Features Inspiring New Works That Will Move You

Happening on October 17 and 18, 2024, the Ottawa New Music Festival celebrates innovative tunes brought to life by passionate musicians from near and far.

The festival kicks off with the premiere of “Almost Homeless” by Frank Horvat – a piece that confronts the financial struggles faced by many in Ottawa, even tackling the harsh realities of the high cost of living.

With a blend of firsthand experiences and powerful music, this composition is poised to resonate deeply amid difficult conversations.

The night also features performances by SHHH!! Ensemble and Miller, showcasing works by Canadian composers like Jocelyn Morlock and Harry Stafylakis.

Ottawa New Music Festival’s second day is set to sizzle with a “Triple Header” featuring Halifax cellist India Gailey, Montreal percussionist David Brongo, and Ottawa harpist Michelle Gott, each performing for 30 to 40 minutes.

They’ll showcase tracks from their newest albums and exciting pieces by composers like Nicole Lizée and John Gordon Armstrong. Don’t miss this musical mashup!

After the moving performances on both dates, be sure to stick around for a chance to connect with the artists in the OAG’s Skylounge.

You can purchase tickets through Eventbrite at $20 to $50, depending on the package you choose. Discounts are available for students, art workers, and seniors.
