Welcome the Lunar New Year in Ottawa with a Parade on February 2, 2025

Ring in the Year of the Snake in Ottawa with a grand parade on February 2! The parade will start at 1 PM at the Chinatown Gateway on 687 Somerset Street and winds toward Bell Street North.

While the New Year officially kicks off on January 29, we’re holding out for February 2, when Somerset Street West transforms into a lively, car-free hub of culture and community.

During the parade, expect to see lion and dragon dances—loud and colorful performances to bring good luck and drive bad spirits away.

Along the way, there will also be various stops for the New Year’s Blessing Ceremony. Led by our community leaders and other guests, this is a heartfelt tradition, brimming with wishes for good health, happiness, and prosperity.

And, keep your eyes peeled for red envelopes, which are symbols of good luck and prosperity. They’ll be handing them out throughout the event.

Ottawa’s Lunar New Year Parade is free so don’t miss out!
