A friend of mine was feeling a bit stressed out. Her dad kept mixing things up, like grabbing the remote instead of his glasses. At first, it was, “Haha, classic!” but now it’s happening more, and she became worried.

To ease her worries (without her even asking), I jumped in—self-proclaimed problem solver here.

Turns out, there are incredible memory care facilities in Ottawa that provide specialized care in a supportive and secure environment. And now she’s feeling way more relaxed, knowing her dad will receive the right attention.

So, I thought I’d share the scoop with you too—just in case it rings any bells!

How much do memory care services cost in Ottawa?

Memory care services in Ottawa generally cost between $3,500 and $7,000 per month. The price can vary based on factors such as the level of care required, the size of the room, and additional services like specialized therapies.

Some facilities may offer flexible payment plans or all-inclusive packages, so it’s worth comparing options to find the best fit for your needs without compromising on quality care.

Website

Home Instead’s story began in 1994 when founders Paul and Lori Hogan took care of Paul’s 90-year-old grandma.

Being her very first caregivers, the Hogans developed a real appreciation for aging adults and those looking after them.

Fast forward to today, they’ve got a team of well-trained care consultants, caregivers, and education coordinators. These people are experts, making sure your loved ones get the best care possible.

Thanks to that, Home Instead is now trusted by over 100,000 clients and families, especially for their person-centered dementia care.

But on the not-so-great side, someone pointed out that changes to the care plan can be slow to implement. This delay can be an issue, especially when quick adjustments are needed for the resident’s comfort or health.

Pros

  • A long history of expertise
  • Well-trained team
  • Trusted by over 100,000 clients and families

Cons

  • Slow care plan adjustments

Caring, reliable, and responsible staff

“Our family has been very pleased and dare I say relieved to have engaged the people at Home Instead Ottawa. We are dealing with a loved one who has dementia and the support offered has been invaluable. Right from the first call to the office, through the in-home assessment, and to the caregiver staff, we have found them to be caring, reliable and responsive to changing needs. They have done their best to match our needs to the right caregiver. I highly recommend Home Instead Ottawa.”

Kind, compassionate, and very caring team

“Home Instead provided amazing service and companionship for my Mom who suffers from dementia after she took a fall and had to be hospitalized. All of the caregivers, but especially Amanda Vickery, were awesome! Amanda and the rest of the team were kind, compassionate and very caring. It gave us so much peace of mind to know that when we weren’t able to be with our Mom, she was still getting the care and companionship that she needed. The team was quick to respond to all of our requests for a caregiver, even when the request was made the day we wanted to arrange services. A very big thank you to all of the Home Instead team!!”

Plus, their facility features peaceful outdoor spaces and comfortable rooms, adding to the overall quality of life. Their regular housekeeping keeps things tidy, which is always a bonus.

But here’s the rub: some say the staff don’t get enough training, which could affect care quality. That’s definitely something to chew on if you’re considering it!

Pros

  • Offers specialized care for individuals
  • Provides stimulating activities
  • Features peaceful spaces
  • Conducts regular housekeeping

Cons

  • Staff don’t get enough training

Customer Reviews

Extremely accommodating management

“Our dad is very happy here. We are extremely comfortable with his care at Symphony. The wonderful staff make Symphony a home and people that come to visit always comment positively about the friendliness of the staff. The management is extremely accommodating to our requests and we always feel welcome to come in and do therapy, share a meal or just enjoy the entertainment with all the fantastic residents that call Symphony Kanata home.”

— D King, Google Review

Excellent food and fun activities

“My mom moved in this June. She wasn’t happy about leaving her place but she was falling a lot and were very happy when we could ‘tick’ off all her requirements- privacy, flexibility, walk out patio, activities, care, and having her pet with her when we visited Symphony. We saw other places but they didn’t have the atmosphere that Kanata Symphony did. Everyone is so friendly and relaxed. Even though she said she didn’t ‘need’ friends, she has made them and really enjoys the staff and activities. She is never in her room. The home’s pets are a big plus too, makes it feel like home. The food and care is excellent. We are involved in her care plans and get regular updates so we don’t worry about her anymore. It’s really been the best decision for our whole family. Thanks again!! Rating 5/5!”

3. The Redwoods

Address: 2604 Avenue Draper

Phone: (613) 356-4448

Office Hours: Open 24 hours daily

Website

Founded in 1998, The Redwoods is one of the oldest memory care facilities on this list. They’re all about structure, focus, and preserving meaningful connections.

They’ve also got a well-trained team—nursing assistants, cooks, and housekeeping staff. These folks are the heart of The Redwoods, making sure residents get the best care possible.

Their facility features 17-floor high-rise towers with balconies and cozy lounge areas. And it doesn’t stop there—amenities like pubs and saltwater pools create a fun vibe, making the place feel more like a retreat.

But what we like most is that local students interact with the residents as reading buddies. This adds a valuable social benefit, keeping both residents and students engaged and connected.

All these perks aside, responsiveness is an issue at The Redwoods. Missed confirmations and unreturned calls are common, so if you need prompt communication, this might not be the best fit.

Pros

  • Years of seasoned knowledge
  • Well-trained team
  • Top-notch facility and amenities
  • Local students as reading buddies

Cons

  • Issue with responsiveness

Customer Reviews

Plenty of activities to enjoy

“We had to make the difficult decision to have my father-in-law move into an assisted-living residence. We learned of The Redwoods from mail that he had been receiving and knew that when the time came, he wanted the best. He got it… April, Crystal and the gang were and are amazing and take excellent care of him. Accommodations are terrific as is the food and there are plenty of activities to enjoy. Right choice and one that we are happy with! Thanks Redwoods Team!”

Very spacious facility and welcoming staff

“My parents moved into The Redwoods a short time ago and we are amazed at how fast they have settled in. Their apartment is very spacious and they are enjoying the food and the activities. From our first contact with The Redwoods to moving and settling them in, the staff in every department have been very welcoming and always willing to help in any way. They quickly felt at home and we are all very happy with the decision to choose The Redwoods.”

Expert guidance for complex transitions

“It was a pleasure working with Laura to assist the transition of my 90-year-old aunt from one retirement home to another that met her new requirements for age in place. Laura was very good diligent and coming up with the options available and within the budget that we had to work with. I would recommend anyone who does not have the time to do it all themselves and would like an expert to guide them on this very difficult and complex type of transition to avail themselves of her services.”

Just the perfect size studio room

“Carp Commons is an amazing place!  My mother in law moved in December 2023 and loves it.  She loves that the staff are all so friendly and helpful.  Her studio room is just the perfect size!  She loves the food each day!  I can’t thank Rebekah, Jill, Collins, Charlotte and the rest of the staff enough I was worried about this transition and everyone has stepped up and made it delightful. All the residents are amazing and so friendly and helpful as well. Carp is so lucky to have a place like the Commons!!”

He receives excellent personal and medical support and care. The programmes and facilities are top notch. Visitors are equally welcomed as members of the Carp Commons family. The staff members are all exceptionally friendly, and the general atmosphere is uplifting and peaceful. All of us, including our father the resident, could not be happier with our decision to make Carp Commons a part of our lives.”
