Watch Local Talent Steal the Show at Ottawa’s 10-Minute Play Festival on August 1 to 3, 2025

Kanata Theater’s 10-Minute Play Festival is back with local talent and original productions! From August 1 to 3, 2025, you can watch the new plays at the Ron Maslin Playhouse in Ottawa.

Ten minutes might not be a lot to work with, but it’s more than enough time for good playwrights to make you feel something. So far, we’ve yet to be disappointed.

Last year, we left the event still thinking about EJ Nash’s Devil’s Advocate, a story about a new soul in purgatory pleading his case to enter heaven.

What started as a light, comedic take on the afterlife turned into a moral tug-of-war, which had us giggling one minute and reflecting on our lives the next.

We expect nothing less from Nash at this year’s festival, who is coming out with another funny play called Study Buddy.

Here are the original plays you can look forward to.

  • Tents Situation by Sonia Mendes, directed by Jeff Scott
  • Last Stand at Southwatch by Claire Bosnich, directed by Yonatan Ravzin
  • Getting There by Caroline Koekman, directed by Ilona Henkelman
  • Menage a Trois by Karine Charland, directed by Brian McManus
  • A Cut Above by Juli Heney, directed by Martina Peterson
  • Study Buddy by EJ Nash, directed by Janet Rice

General admission tickets are available at the door during the festival. Just like previous years, this will be a pay-what-you-can event, but we encourage donating at least $10 to support the local theater scene. Cash only!
