The 5 Best Sushi Restaurants in Barrhaven That Will Satisfy Your Nigiri Cravings

Barrhaven is no stranger to good sushi. C’est Japon à Suisha and Hokkaido Sushi were my go-to spots for years, so I was heartbroken when they closed their doors.

For a while, I did get my sushi fix elsewhere, but a chance encounter with a friend sent me right back to Barrhaven. Turns out, there are a few hidden gems in the area that I didn’t know about.

It made me realize that much of Barrhaven is changing, and so is its food scene, in a good way. Just like the neighborhood, the sushi options are evolving, bringing in fresh flavors and unique experiences.

Here, I’m going to show you around the best sushi spots in Barrhaven so you can satisfy your cravings.

Must-have: Spicy Crispy Salmon Rolls

One of the best sushi spots in Barrhaven is 1000 Sushi Islands, an all-you-can-eat buffet known for its extensive menu. You can get everything from sashimi and authentic rolls to trendy fusion favorites—all served fresh and thoughtfully prepared.

But what makes this place extra special is the friendly, attentive service. Their staff will zoom in and out to take away empty plates and refill drinks, ensuring you have a good time.

Although they open daily, you can’t waltz in anytime you want as they have specific lunch and dinner hours. Then, between 3 PM to 4:30 PM, they only accept takeout orders.

Pro Tip:

The best time to get sushi would be during lunch hours from Mondays to Thursdays because it only costs $26.99 per adult.

2. Sushi Shop

Must-have: Teriyaki Salmon

Sushi Shop is a popular restaurant chain with 150+ locations across the country, one of which is in Barrhaven. They take a creative approach to this well-loved Japanese delicacy by fusing global flavors with the artisanal beauty of traditional sushi.

Here, they offer a wide range of proteins, including salmon, lobster, chicken, and tofu. No matter what you’re craving, I’m sure you’ll find something on their menu to satisfy it.

While I do love a simple Salmon Nigiri, I always like to try their new creations, especially the platters. Everything is carefully curated to bring you the perfect blend of flavors and textures.

Pro Tip:

Don’t miss out on their bubble teas made with green tea and real fruit juices.

3. Pho Thi Fusion

Location: 129 Riocan Ave Unit #4, Nepean

Operating hours: Daily, 11 AM to 2 AM

Phone: +16138253325

Must-have: Spicy Salmon Rolls

Pho Thi Fusion is an Asian restaurant, serving fusion dishes from Vietnam, Japan, Korea, and more. They don’t have the most extensive sushi menu, but they have some pretty solid options, including California rolls, shrimp nigiri, and salmon sashimi.

Just like other sushi spots in Barrhaven, they have special rolls that go beyond the traditional flavors. The rainbow dragon, packed with eel, salmon, tuna, and avocados, is a must if you’re looking for a creamy, savory bite.

What I like the most about this spot is that it stays open until the wee hours of the morning. If you’re having late-night sushi cravings, you can swing by and have a freshly made roll of sushi and maybe a boozy drink to go with it.

Pro Tip:

Their drink menu is definitely more extensive than the sushi so order something refreshing to wash down your food. They have beer, wine, coffee, tea, and even milkshakes.

4. Edo Japan

Location: 3181 Greenbank Rd 302 (102B)

Operating hours: Daily 10 AM to 11 PM

Must-have: California Rolls

Edo Japan is a fast-food restaurant serving classic and contemporary Japanese dishes, including a solid range of sushi. They have a simple, approachable selection of California rolls, dynamite, and spicy tuna, which you can get in 4, 8, or 12 pieces.

Although the flavors are great and the rice is always seasoned, I wish the slices of fish were a bit bigger and thicker.

The vibe at Edo Japan is relaxed and family-friendly. You’ll find a mix of regulars, including busy professionals grabbing lunch, families dining out, and students enjoying a quick bite after school.

Pro Tip:

If you’re a regular at Edo Japan, create a profile on their app so you can earn Edo Cash every time you order—whether in-store, online, or via the app. Once you’ve earned enough coins, you can redeem them and save big on your next sushi fix.

5. Pokeworks Barrhaven

Location: 51 Marketplace Ave Unit 104 B2A

Operating hours: Daily 10:30 AM to 9 PM

Phone: +16138253709

Must-have: Tiger Rolls

Pokeworks is best known for its poke bowls, but it also offers a range of delicious sushi options that shouldn’t be overlooked. Their sushi selection includes classics like spicy salmon rolls, tuna rolls, and vegetarian options, all made with fresh ingredients.

What I like to get from here are the bento boxes. I can enjoy sushi paired with other Japanese favorites like miso soup, edamame, and tempura, creating a balanced and flavorful meal.

If you have little ones, you’ll love their kid’s menu, which includes a carefully curated platter of sushi. It features simpler rolls with cucumber or avocado ingredients to cater to younger taste buds.

Pro Tip:

For the best value, go for a bento box at lunchtime—it’s a filling and satisfying way to try a mix of sushi and other Japanese dishes.
