5 Best Kanata Restaurants That Will Turn You into a Patron

As someone who only knew Kanata as a tech hub, I never really expected much from the local food scene—that is until a friend proved me wrong. It turns out that there’s more to this place than just burgers, fries, and greasy to-go lunches for busy bees.

One of the biggest surprises was seeing the diversity in the culinary landscape. From wood-fired Italian pizza to Turkish kebabs and Vietnamese pho, you will find flavors from all over the world in this neighborhood.

Here are the best Kanata restaurants to try right now.

Location: 471 Terry Fox Drive, Unit 120

Phone: +16132710000

Opening hours:

Mon, Closed

Tue-Sun, 12 Noon to 9:30 PM

Turkish Kebab House highlights authentic Turkish cuisine on its menu with all the classics present, such as charcoal-grilled lamb chops, savory flatbreads topped with spiced meats, and hand-minced kebabs.

What I like the most about this place is they serve huge platters of charcoal-grilled meats, perfect for sharing with large groups of friends or family.

If you’re coming here, always save room for desserts. From the honey-soaked, crispy baklava to the creamy rice pudding, these treats will surely curb your post-dinner sweet cravings.

Pro Tip:

Turkish Kebab House doesn’t accept any reservations, but they do have a spacious restaurant in Kanata with plenty of seating. For large groups of more than 8 people, they charge an extra 10%.

Location: 435 Kanata Avenue

Phone: +16135951968

Opening hours:

Mon-Fri, 11 AM to 11 PM

Sat-Sun, 10 AM to 11 PM

Milestones is a popular restaurant chain in Canada, known for upscale dining. It’s the perfect place for a date because it’s sophisticated but the vibe is a little laid back, making it less intimidating.

My favorite thing about this place is their date night special, a hefty three-course meal that includes a shared starter, your choice of entree, and dessert. It costs $75 without drinks, which is quite a good deal.

If you’re going a la carte, they have quite an extensive menu featuring pastas, salads, burgers, and steaks. Everything comes in hefty portions served with a choice of sides and seasonal vegetables.

Pro Tip:

Visit during their “Date Night” specials, where you can enjoy a three-course meal for two at a great value, or drop by for their popular Sunday brunch to experience their delicious brunch classics with mimosas.

Location: 499 Terry Fox Drive

Phone: +16135920225

Opening hours:

Mon-Thu, 11:30 AM to 9 PM

Fri-Sat, 11:30 AM to 10 PM

Sun, 5 AM to 9 PM

Fratelli is the neighborhood’s go-to restaurant for everything Italian—wine, pasta, and wood-fired pizza. What they can, they make from scratch using high-quality ingredients, which is well reflected in the cost of their dishes.

Some of my favorites include the Margherita pizza, veal marsala, and homemade lasagna. Their seafood dishes are also incredible whether it be scallops, mussels, or shrimp.

With the restaurant’s cozy ambiance and curated wine selection, it’s a great place to celebrate special occasions. What makes it a well-loved spot is the attentive service, which is always warm, inviting, and fast even on the busiest of nights.

Pro Tip:

Fratelli is packed on Friday and Saturday nights so come early to avoid the crowds. Or, you can just wait for Sunday night to enjoy a more relaxing dinner.

Via Cibo Kanata

Website: https://www.viacibo.com/

Location: 120 Earl Grey Dr #100A

Phone: +16135999979

Opening hours:

Mon, 11 AM to 9 PM

Tue and Sun, 11 AM to 10 PM

Wed, 11 AM to 11 PM

Thu-Sat, 11 AM to 12 AM

Via Cibo is home to some of the best pizzas in Kanata. They use a traditional wood-fired oven imported from Italy to bake their pies, which gives them that unique smoky flavor and perfectly crisp crust.

I can say with confidence that their homemade chocolate chip biscotti is worth going out of your way for. But if you’re looking for something on the sweeter side, you should get their gelato, maybe with a shot of espresso for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Even though they prepare their dishes with the finest ingredients, Via Cibo remains reasonably priced, making it an accessible option for the neighborhood. It’s a great spot for a quick lunch or a laid-back dinner because of its relaxed, casual atmosphere.

Pro Tip:

Visit during lunch hours to avoid the crowds. No matter what day of the week, dinner hours can get pretty busy and packed so come early to secure a table.

Location: 500 Hazeldean Road

Phone: +16138311121

Opening hours: Daily, 10 AM to 9 PM

Kanata Noodle House has two spots in the neighborhood—one on Hazeldean Road and the other on Carling. These mom-and-pop shops serve authentic Vietnamese food, ranging from stir-fries, noodles, soups, and bubble tea.

While the pho is the star of this restaurant, an un-pho-gettable treat, other dishes are just as phenomenal. The Mi Xao Don, a crunchy noodle topped with crispy veggies and your choice of protein, is also a must-have.

What I like the most about this spot is that they have so much variety that I could never get sick of eating here. Plus, everything comes in generous portions and at an affordable price—with the largest serving costing no more than $20 per order.

Pro Tip:

Kanata Noodle House does deliver food from 10 AM to 7:45 PM, perfect for days when you just want to stay in. You must order food worth a minimum of $60 (before taxes).
